Chapter 49 A Special Gift and Boastful Words

“Captain Hong Feng, we’ve found Wang Yun on the surveillance footage,” Skyhawk reported.

Hong Feng’s orders were audible to Skyhawk, who immediately played the footage on the screen. In the video, Wang Yun walked out from the banquet hall, took out some gum, chewed it briefly, and then approached the camera. With a broad grin, he used the gum to obscure the camera lens.

Observing Wang Yun’s satisfied smile, Hong Feng’s eyebrows were slightly furrowed.

He looked down at his laptop, where he had sketched out a layout of a building, presumably Nansu Tower.

“Check if there are any high-altitude operations currently happening at Nansu Tower,” Hong Feng instructed.

“High-altitude operations?” Zhang Xingchen was momentarily puzzled, but then the light of realization dawned in his eyes.

“Verify if there are any workers performing tasks or constructions at high altitudes to ensure that Wang Yun doesn’t escape using their equipment.”

“Understood, Captain,” three officers immediately confirmed their tasks.

“Captain Hong Feng is incredibly thorough,” one of the viewers commented on the livestream.

“That’s what you call a top-tier inspector. Meticulous, missing no detail whatsoever.”

“Wang Yun’s doomed with that level of planning!”

The livestream viewers expressed their amazement at Hong Feng’s strategic thinking once again.

“Captain, there are no high-altitude operations taking place outside Nansu Tower today,” the officers quickly reported back.

Zhang Xingchen breathed another sigh of relief and looked toward Hong Feng, asking, “Is there anything else we need to consider?”

“No, we’ve covered all our bases. Let’s proceed with a floor-by-floor search. He shouldn’t be able to escape now,” Hong Feng affirmed, nodding his approval.

The affirmation brought a subtle smile of relief to Zhang Xingchen’s face.

“Begin the search,” he ordered into the microphone. “Take out your stun guns and be prepared to use them.”

The search operation began.

In total, there were 25 officers on the inspection team. Excluding those in the surveillance room and elevators, 19 officers were left. Armed with stun guns, they began their search at a brisk pace.

Remarkably, they managed to scour the entirety of the 84th floor in just two minutes. Every nook and cranny was meticulously searched.

It took three minutes to scour the 85th floor.

Four minutes for the 86th.

Floor by floor, they continued their search. Zhang Xingchen stared intently at the surveillance feed, with Hong Feng also watching closely from the side.

“Search complete on the 87th floor. Only two more floors to go!”

Upon seeing the officers enter the 88th floor, even the confident Zhang Xingchen felt a twinge of tension. Sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ ɴ0velFɪre.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of nøvels early and in the highest quality.

“Don’t worry. He won’t just disappear into thin air,” assured Hong Feng, his arms crossed as he calmly observed the situation.

Zhang Xingchen nodded, and silence enveloped the room. Everyone waited, their eyes glued to the screens.

The 88th floor was searched but still no sign of him. Only one floor remained. However, as the officers emerged onto the 89th floor from the evacuation stairwell, they noticed wet footprints on the floor, giving them pause.

The footprints led upwards toward the rooftop.

“Captain, there are wet footprints leading to the building’s rooftop,” reported Zhao Shan, his eyes flashing. “I recommend sending a couple of officers to investigate.”

“The rooftop, you say?” Zhang Xingchen hesitated briefly before nodding in agreement. “Alright. The rooftop of Nansu Tower used to be a private heliport but is now abandoned. It’s worth checking out.”

Hearing this, Hong Feng frowned, “If he left footprints, he’s likely not on the rooftop.”

“Let’s find out for ourselves.”

At the 89th-floor evacuation stairwell, Zhao Shan signaled to one of the inspection officers, and the two of them made their way to the rooftop, leaving the rest of the team waiting below.

As they opened the entrance door, the rusty iron hinges creaked loudly.

“I’ve been waiting for you guys for twenty minutes. You’re really slow,” a voice suddenly rang out as they stepped onto the rooftop.

Startled, Zhao Shan and his colleague immediately looked up.

Standing in the distance was a figure in a suit, his back turned to them.

“Wang Yun.” Zhao Shan’s eyes narrowed as he fixed his gaze on the figure, speaking in a deep, resonant voice.

“Who else could it be?” Wang Yun turned his head and offered them a wry smile.

“The target’s on the roof,” the officer beside Zhao Shan couldn’t contain his excitement. He immediately yelled the update to those below.

“What? On the roof? Let’s go, move.” Hearing this, the other officers rushed over at once.

Zhao Shan kept his eyes trained on Wang Yun, tasers aimed and ready. He slowly closed the distance, cautioning, “Wang Yun, just give up. You have nowhere to run.”

“You’re under arrest,” another officer announced coldly.

From the rear, seventeen additional officers arrived, tasers at the ready.

“Sigh, we finally did it. We’ve got him at last.”

Inside the command center room, Zhang Xingchen watched the unfolding events, his face alight with a mix of excitement and triumph.

At last, they could put an end to this man’s reign of crime and he could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

However, next to him, Hong Feng looked increasingly concerned. He scribbled the word ‘parachute,’ but quickly crossed it out. They weren’t high enough for that.

“Hold on, look down at your feet. That’s my little gift for Captain Zhang Xingchen,” a voice suddenly echoed from the screen. Hong Feng’s eyes shot up.

The officers looked down to find several toys on the ground–pig toys, to be exact.

Zhao Shan and his team paused, visibly puzzled as they looked at the toy pigs, unsure of their meaning.

Just then, they watched Wang Yun discard the jacket he had slung over his shoulders, slowly turning to face them.

“Quite disappointing, really. Your Captain Zhang Xingchen is rather incompetent. You might want to consider some of the top-tier captains, otherwise, this won’t be any fun.”

Wang Yun rose to his feet and slowly unfurled his arms, revealing what he was wearing–a wingsuit.
