Harry Potter: The Ring Maker
Chapter 59: Forgotten magic

Nick wasn't aware that he had entered Voldemort's crosshairs as he was devouring the last little bit of information in the normal book of magical fundamentals. He closed the book with a frown at the last piece information that the book discussed. The topic was on where the magic wizards cast came from and it was very unhelpful to say the least. See the book said that no one actually knew for sure but had been using the stuff for as long as recorded knowledge. 'It is a bit concerning if what this book says is true.' Nick thought seriously before moving to the "ancient" section book.-

His choice to look at modern before "ancient" fundamental books was rewarded immediately when the first entry in this book was about the origin of magical creatures. According to this book most magical creatures were the result of ancient wizards experimenting on local wildlife or already existing magical creatures. There were exceptions to this however such as phoenix's , thunderbirds , unicorns and dragons. These species were apparently always around as far as this book was concerned. The biggest cause of new magical species was apparently ancient alchemist however as they messed with the natural order of things in their attempts to discover the secrets of the world.-

The topic after that was about the fundamentals of transfiguration but with a few small differences the content was the same as the modern stuff. A huge problem presented itself however with the third topic covered in the "ancient" book , spell crafting. According to the book ancient wizards didn't usually learn premade spells but rather had to make a brand new one for whatever they needed. This wasn't all that strange to Nick since wizarding schools weren't really a thing at that time.-

The problem however was how the wizards went about crafting their spells , an eerily familiar process of imbuing their wills into their foci and casting the resulting magic based on their own knowledge of the topic. If this sounds familiar it is because it is as when Nick smiths the enchantment process is nearly identical at first glance. The biggest difference is that their method is more suggesting the magic do a certain thing making it unstable , while Nicks process was forcing it to with his very soul creating a predictable result. 'No one can ever know about this or I won't be safe.' Nick thought with a serious expression.-

Clearly this book was written before spell creation via arithmancy and astrology since those were the ones used for the past thousand years. The works of magic from way way longer in the past than that still worked even today and exceeded almost all modern magic. So if anyone learned that Nick basically had the ancient method of spell crafting the whole world will hunt him down if he doesn't share it. He wasn't surprised all that much by learning the similarities that existed between ancient magic and elvish crafting since assuming that the magic in both worlds worked the same then them coming to similar ways of use was not that hard to imagine.-

It wasn't all bad news though as thanks to this information Nick now had some clue how to apply his crafting styles knowledge to spell making. 'I won't attempt it anytime soon though since mastering my current magic system is already difficult enough.' he thought honestly while having an entire library around him to prove it. Nick knew that the magic he has shown so far seems impressive at first glance but every single one of the professors knew it was actually elementary in nature and could replicate it at a single glance.-

This didn't even consider "pinnacle" wizards like Dumbledore who stood above almost all other wizards in terms of mastery. Nick wasn't stupid enough to think that Dumbledore's level was the absolute limit of this system of magic but he assumed instead that it was a problem of not having enough time to reach further. In a way Nick agreed with Voldemort that immortality was necessary to have or at the very least agelessness. Unfortunately however the dark lords method came with the side effect of crippling your potential.- Sᴇaʀch* Thᴇ Nʘvᴇl(F)ire.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of nøvels early and in the highest quality.

Pragmatically speaking a single life in exchange for all the time in the world was a damn good deal. Especially when you could just regret your actions to reabsorb the soul fragment and heal the damage done to your soul. It didn't make much sense to Nick when he read that little fact in the books since it was far too easy to do. Humans regret even the most inconsequential of things so getting the genuine regret for your actions was really easy though truly evil people seem to have issues with this for some reason.
