Chapter 13 – The Chocolate Tasted Bittersweet

TL: Zimmings

I fell and smashed my butt on the ground. I blinked and looked at the boy.

The boy had a bewildered expression on his face as if he had no intention of knocking me over.

‘He’s a good kid.’

I shook my head to say that it was okay.

“Papapu. Papapu.”

Again, my mouth started to move regardless of my will.

Now that I’m used to it, I just surrendered to my instincts and speak whatever I want.

“Baby… …?”

Seeing me, the boy wrinkled his face and asked.

“Why is a baby here? Whose baby is it?”

‘That’s what I want to ask you.’

‘If he’s inside the Imperial Palace, he must not be an ordinary child.’

I crawled back and looked into the boy’s face.

The boy’s red eyes sank as it turned to a reddish purple.

‘Oh my god, how could such eyes exist?’

The color looks different depending on the angle. It was a really strange sight. I clapped my hands and burst out laughing.

“Pwetty! Pwetty!”

I’m not joking, the boy’s eyes were prettier than any jewels in the Pen Orchid Palace.

But the boy seemed to dislike compliments. The boy furiously twisted his brow and looked down at me.

“Don’t say I’m pretty. Say it one more time, and I won’t let you go.”

‘Why are you so ferocious?’

I leaned my head and brought my face closer to the boy. The boy glared at me.

“What is it? Are you going to cry?”

Not missing that very moment, I shoved what I was holding in my hand into the boy’s lips.

“Chomp!”

At my unexpected action, the boy was helplessly biting what came into his mouth.

I laughed softly.

“Choco. Choco.”

What I shoved into the boy’s mouth was none other than the chocolate I had recovered from Pupu.

‘When we’re hungry, we might be angry like him. Hehe, I like it, but I’ll give it up.’

If I go back to the palace and cling to Alexander, he will take it out of his front pocket again. I shook my head.

“… … .”

The boy pursed his lips. But even without saying a word, his feelings were clearly conveyed.

‘Look at him.’

I’m a year old, and it was the first time someone stared at me like this.

But I was too old to be shy from his gaze, and the scar on the boy’s cheek looked too pitiful.

I gently placed my hand on the boy’s cheek.

“Pupui?” (Does it hurts?)

Maybe it’s because I suddenly moved, the boy did not even budge. Of course, he replied harshly.

“Didn’t I tell you not to touch it?”

“Pupui?”

“If you touch me like that… … ah.”

The boy bit his lips.

I gently touched the boy’s cheek. The wound was deeper than I thought.

‘Did a cat scratch it?’

It could be if he get caught by a ferocious cat like Pupu.

‘It must have been very painful. Why are here without treating it?’

Thinking of the boy sitting alone hiding in the bushes like this made my heart hurt.

‘I don’t have a bandaid, I also don’t have medicine.’

This was all it could do. I grabbed the boy’s face. And I pursed my lips cutely.

“Fuu~.”

“… … !!”

I blew on the wound.

‘Is this all right?’

I stopped blowing and made eye contact with the boy.

The boy was frozen as if he had been hit.

I smiled and said to the boy.

“Kwid, ma, ma, ma.”

I tried to ask the kid’s name, but another strange babble popped out.

To my words, the boy wrinkled his face again and answered.

“Why am I a kid?”

“Puuh.” (Heh!)

I don’t even know your name, so what do I call you? I pouted my lips and grunted.

“Fuuu!”

I blew at the wound again and turned around.

“W-wait!”

Then the boy called out to me. When I turned around again, the boy was speechless and he was frowning.

And after hesitating, he said his name slowly.

“… … My name is Sika.”

‘Sika?’

It was a name I had never even heard of. I blinked my eyes.

Sika.

‘It’s a pretty name.’

It was a name that went well with the boy sitting in front of me.

I sat down on the floor again and called his name.

“Ka?”

“It’s not Ka, it’s Sika.”

“Kaah?”

“Sika.”

‘Oh, I know! I just can’t say it!’

I kept calling his name by myself over and over again.

‘Oh, it’s frustrating.’

It was around the time when I started hating myself for not being able to say his name properly…

“Sika.”

“!”

His name came out clearly from my mouth. Seeing him with his eyes wide open, I realized that I had said my name properly.

Then I smiled brightly and called him.

“Sika!”

It was very strange.

I smiled brightly and called his name, but he opened his eyes and was stiff like a stone.

Still, I could see blood draining from his face.

‘Why?’

When I tilted my head and reached for his face. Sika, who had been sitting quietly, abruptly got up.

Then he spoke to me in a cold voice.

“You go away.”

“Huh?”

What is this all of a sudden?

I couldn’t understand the words, but Sika turned around and started running.

‘No, I want introduced myself, so are you running away?’

I called him out loud.

“Kaah, Sika!!”

If I call him like this, he could at least look back at me.

Sika quickly disappeared through the bushes.

In the end, I was left alone in the grass.

* * *

Seeing Sika disappearing in the distance, I sighed.

‘I thought I said it right. Did I call him the wrong name?’

No matter how much I thought about it, there was no reason to run away like a wild cat. I folded my arms and shook my head.

‘I wondered if I could make friends my age.’

Seeing him running away, it seemed like he didn’t want to be friends with me.

‘He was a really special kid. Especially those eyes.’

When I was a child of that age, it seems that every day was just a strange thing without thinking much about it.

At the very least, I could play for hours with worms rolling on the side of the road.

But Sika’s eyes were just dark. As if there was no hope for the future at all.

‘… … Will he come again?’

It would have been nice to meet again.

I stared at the place beyond where Sika had disappeared with a look of regret.

The red eyes that mysteriously glowed like glass beads in the sunlight were still clear in my mind.

‘I hope you come again. When we meet again, I should be more kind.’

I promised to do better for Sika next time we meet.

It was then. I heard Lucinda’s longing voice from the other side.

“Ariel, where are you?”

“Mama!!”

“Oh my God!!”

It didn’t make sense to see Lucinda ran through the grass.

Her eyes were swollen from crying so much and in that short time her head was covered with leaves. She called me desperately.

“Ariel!”

“Mama!”

Hearing that I flown because of Pupu and fell into a corner of the garden, she seems to have been looking for me frantically.

‘Oh, everyone must have been worried. I was so focused on Sika that I didn’t think of them.’

After a while, Alexander, who was as sad as Lucinda, appeared and knelt before me.

“Kill me, Princess. I will pay the responsibility for this accident with my life.”

“Papui!!” (What are you talking about!)

I completely forgot about the pitiful little boy and tried to appease Alexander.

* * *

Amelia’s brief and intense meeting with Sika ended just like that.

Sika disappeared and Amelia quickly forgot about Sika, but Sika’s mind was not so easily organized.

In fact, when he saw Amelia who suddenly appeared for the first time, Sika’s only emotion was displeasure.

‘What?’

Sika glanced at the young child with blonde hair, frowning in fear in front of her.

Even though he spoke as harshly as he could, the child came closer to Sika’s face and reached out, perhaps not understanding him.

“Pupui?”

Such interests only bothered Sika. He was skeptical of people.

Even when his mother hurt Sika, the maids just stare at him.

But the child approached Sika.

The child who came closer smelled sweet. Like a mixture of milk and cookies.

‘It’s unpleasant.’

It was a smell that didn’t suit Sika. So Sika avoided the child’s hand.

“Didn’t I tell you not to touch it?”

Each time his resolve is weakened, Sika repeated this inside his mind.

There is no one in the world who would help him. No one is kind to him for no reason.

‘So just go.’ sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Nʘvᴇl(F)ire.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of nøvels early and in the highest quality.

This kindness was just annoying.

Because it makes his heart that has been tightly closed weakened.

“Papui?”

But instead of going, the baby clinged even closer to Sika.

The closer she got, the clearer it became.

Her green pupils that shine depending on the direction of light.

It was a fresh and clear eyes.

‘Why do you keep coming?’

Sika was used to the cold eyes looking at him and it was the first time he had seen such a pure and clear gaze.

‘Why… … .’

Sika was very angry. It was when he opened his mouth to shout…

“Chomp!”

Ugh this baby. She didn’t even give him a chance to talk, and now she put something in his mouth. Then she said calmly to Sika, who was staring at her.

“Choco. Choco.”

‘Huh?’

Everything about Amelia was unfamiliar to Sika. She had a bright and cute smile, a kindness that even causes him discomfort, and a warm body temperature.

When he rolled his tongue, the chocolate that had entered his mouth melted and made his tongue tingle.

Sika frowned and looked at Amelia. As if she couldn’t feel any of those gazes, this baby smiled and did whatever she wanted to do.

“Fuu~.”

“… … !!”

A cold breath touched his wounds. It was a friendly gesture, wishing him a speedy recovery.

‘Damn it.’

Sika’s heart was beating fast. Tears welled up in the corners of his eyes.

He had never experience such tenderness.

‘How did this baby suddenly appeared?’

Sika looked at Amelia with trembling eyes. The baby looked at him innocently, just like her age.

“Pwetty. Pwetty!”

How could the word pretty be directed at Sika?

Sika already know the fact that the very existence of ‘Sika Ricardo’ made people uncomfortable.

To the extent of him pushing away a one-year-old.

But at that moment, unable to resist the strange urge, Sika gave his name away.

“… … My name is Sika.”

His voice was small like a mosquito buzzing, but the baby heard it.

“Kah, Kah.”

However, the baby couldn’t pronounce his name properly.

Sika’s shoulders drooped down.

What did you expect?

‘I don’t think the baby understand me.’

After Sika sighed, Amelia called him with a smile as bright as sunlight.

Her voice was sugar sweet.

“Sika!”

Thump.

Right at that moment. It might not have been heard by anyone else, but Sika’s ears could hear it clearly. It was the sound of his heart beating.

‘… … This is dangerous.’

The heart that had been protecting itself by rejecting others was shaking now.

When he came out of his stupor, Sika had already turned his back on Amelia and ran away.

“Kaa!”

Amelia’s voice echoed behind his back. Sika bit her lip until it bled.

Even so, that sweet voice did not stop ringing behind his back.

“Sika!”

‘Stop!’

Fear filled Shika’s heart much greater than his desire to taste more happiness. Having never experienced tenderness, he wasn’t sure how to react..

‘I won’t come again. Never!’

Sika ran as he desperatel tried to erase her image.

He ran and ran again and came back to the detached palace.

“Oh my, young master!”

For some reason, all the servants were surprised to see him. Not knowing what was going on, Sika blinked his eyes in bewilderment.

Drip.

But what is this?

A lukewarm and annoying thing, as warm as the baby’s body temperature that had touched his cheek for a while, wet his face.

It was only after hearing the sound that Sika realized.

Tears were dripping down his face.
