Chapter 7 – After I Woke Up, The World Has Changed

TL: Zimmings

“You…”

Those green eyes which were the same as his were staring at him again.

Tessa, who was rarely excited, trembled with excitement.

“This child……?”

But Tessa was soon disappointed.

This was because Amelia’s eyes, who he thought would be welcoming like Lloyd’s, had fear in her eyes instead.

‘As expected, she is afraid of me too.’

Those who knew of Tessa’s abilities and his relentless disposition feared him. The very act of someone looking at him with fearful eyes no longer surprised him.

‘Even my family is afraid of me.’

But, he still had some expectations for Amelia. Afterall, she’s the daughter of the man he loved the most.

‘Is it okay to have some expectations?’

When Tessa was trying to clear his thoughts, a petite woman caught his eyes.

“W, wait!”

The woman was very petite. Her shoulders, head, limbs, everything. It felt like if Tessa pushed her with one hand, she would fly away. Her wavy golden hair and sweet brown eyes gleamed beautifully.

But a beautiful appearance was not enough to make a woman shine according to Tessa.

“Don’t worry, I’ll protect you, Ariel.”

A woman who was slender and weak stood proudly in front of the emperor. She bravely said that she would protect her niece.

She even stood tall in front of his familiar Langrisser, and held Amelia closely in her arms.

‘Did she think she could do something?’

He could only laugh in his heart.

But he couldn’t take his eyes off Amelia and Lucinda, who were looking at each other affectionately. Also, that absurd nickname.

“Papa!”

“……!”

He knew that it was just a baby’s babble. There’s nothing special about that baby.

‘But why did I feel something?’

He was uncharacteristically sweet to Amelia, perhaps because he wanted to bond with her like he did with her father. So Tessa, who returned to the palace, gave these orders to his subordinates.

“Take care of the child, she’s precious.”

“Yes.”

Of course, not everything went smoothly.

“Is it not true that she was born as a commoner and grew up as a commoner? It is not appropriate for her to be recognized as a princess!

“Your Majesty is still young! There is no reason to give the succession right to her.”

“Call the Empress Dowager!”

There were many opposition because they didn’t want to recognize Amelia as a princess. They’re taking this advantage to promote an empress candidate instead.

[Are you angry, master?]

Even that ungrateful familiar uses this opportunity to provoke him.

[Burn them all down. Let’s set the example for those who don’t listen.]

“Shut up.”

Tessa endured everything and handled it quietly alone only for  one reason.

Amelia had just entered the palace. He didn’t want Amelia to hear the chaos that was ensuing in the palace.

But did he take too much time?

The only family he had left said,

“Papa no.”

“……!!”

Those words felt like it slashed through Tessa’s chest. Tessa wanted to say this to Amelia right away.

‘Why isn’t this your home? I’m here.’

But looking at the skinny little child, Tessa couldn’t say anything.

Tessa said in a low voice.

“Come out, her familiar.”

[It’s Pupu!]

At Tessa’s call, dazzling rays of light floated in the air, and a cat with fluffy blue fur appeared.

It was Amelia’s familiar, Pupu.

“What happened?”

[Oh dear, it seems like I always deliver news around here, but I’m only a very, very loyal familiar.

..]

“What?”

[……Tell me what you’re curious about!]

“All of Ariel’s recent thoughts.”

Pupu humbly wags his tail and explains to Tessa what had just happened.

[Ariel was upset that Lucinda was being ignored. She thought it was all her fault.]

At Pupu’s words, anger simmered from the bottom of Tessa’s heart. It was also something he experienced as a child.

“Your Majesty.”

Behind him, Mrs. Fenrir was lying with her forehead on the floor. Tessa said in a cold voice, without looking back.

“Did you ignore the princess’ aunt?”

“Everything is my fault!”

Mrs. Fenrir shook her head even more.

The present palace was full of terrible rumors spread by those who were hostile to Amelia.

“Fake princess.”

“Where is the evidence that she is the daughter of Emperor Lloyd?”

“Could it be that the former Emperor loved a commoner who did not know how to write and did not know etiquette?”

So, Mrs. Fenrir wanted to put an end to the rumors by showing the perfect and dignified princess.

There was also a reason why she was particularly cruel to Lucinda.

“The princess doesn’t have a mother, but instead has an aunt?”

“If we are nice to her, we’ll be closer to power.”

This was because many were planning to target Lucinda, who was young, single, and even beautiful.

‘I have to get her out as soon as possible.’

Mrs. Fenrir made that decision. She thought it was the right thing to do, so she didn’t hesitate to be harsh to her.

‘But I didn’t think that the princess would be so attached to her aunt…’

It was her mistake to think that Amelia was just an ignorant one-year-old.

No matter how much she did for Amelia, if she made her sick, it would definitely be her fault. She could only repeatedly apologize to Tessa.

“I didn’t consider the baby’s feelings because I was too focused on protecting her. Forgive me.”

Tessa bit her lip.

Tessa looked at Amelia’s sleeping face. The face of the crying child was haggard.

“Tessa, the only person I trust in the world is you. Did you know that?”

That was the last time he ever saw Lloyd. He still remembered the warm gaze that was directed to him. The child’s eyes were an exact replica of that.

“…Don’t try to separate both of them.”

“But Your Majesty!”

“I know you are not a bad person.”

Tessa looked at Mrs. Fenrir.

“But you need to develop a better eye for people.”

“…My apologies.”

Mrs. Fenrir could only bow her head again in front of him.

After saying that, Tessa exited the Pen Orchid Palace.

Tessa’s face, which had loosened a little when he was by Amelia’s side, turned as cold as ice again.

He headed to the conference hall, the largest space in the imperial palace.

There was a man sitting in a large hall that was empty.

It was an old man with pomade hair, with broad shoulders and a solid physique despite his wrinkled face.

He was the leader of the aristocratic faction in this country, General Raphael.

“I thought you would come, Your Majesty.”

His tone was polite, but his attitude was clearly arrogant.

Tessa’s anger was about to burst seeing him.

‘Someday, I will tear you apart and kill you.’

He was one of the old men who had something to do with Lloyd’s death. Right before his death in a carriage accident, Lloyd was running around so that his beloved, who was a commoner woman, would be acknowledged as his empress.

‘At that time, it was this man who led the opposition for her to be an empress.’

But it was not time yet. Tessa slowly opened his lips.

“I need your help, Lord Raphael.”

Tessa’s words brought a smile to General Raphael’s face. He said in a soft tone.

“I’m always a loyal servant of Your Majesty, then and now.”

It’s a lie.

He was a greedy old man who would want to take everything into his hands.

There were dozens of rebuttals to his statement, but Tessa didn’t bring them up. General Raphael raised an eyebrow.

“So what do you want?”

“Tessa…my wife and child.”

Lloyd’s voice rang clearly in his ears. When he closed his eyes, the gaze Lloyd gave him came to mind.

‘I feel like I want to catch them all and kill them.’

Tessa nodded at Lloyd’s words. Trust me. I will take care of your wife and children.

‘So I can’t act recklessly here.’

If everything was burned now, Amelia could not be happy. There will be a right time for his revenge. Tessa’s lips opened slowly.

“What do I want?”

Amelia.

The only thing Lloyd has left behind. To keep that will, Tessa could have fallen at the feet of that hateful man.

“Convince the noble to vote for Amelia as a princess.”

Sensing Tessa’s earnestness, General Raphael opened his lips, fiddling with his gold ring with a large seal on it.

“It’s difficult to change public opinion.”

Of course, he was going to lose face if he change his opinions. General Raphael said in a cautious tone.

“By the way, I also had something to ask of Your Majesty.

* * *

I had forgotten the fact that I am a princess. I had the power to do whatever I wanted. I resolved as soon as I woke up.

“I greet Princess Amelia”

“I greet Princess Amelia”

…The world had changed.

‘What is this?!’

I opened my eyes wide and hardened in front of the maids, servants, and courtiers who knelt before me.

Actually, when I woke up in the morning, my determination was very strong.

‘Even if Tessa becomes mad because of me, I will ignore him. Even if he begged me to stay.’

It was only because of Lucinda that I went against the flow of the original story and made Tessa aware of my existence in the first place.

I felt bad for Lucinda who was mistreated here.

‘If Lucinda is unhappy, I would gladly let go of my status and the imperial palace.’

I’ll even give up my right to succession. With that in mind, I woke up from the bed and snorted.

“A, Ariel, I think you should come out and see.”

Lucinda, who looked pale, hugged me tightly.

“Abu?”

Why did my calm aunt suddenly panic like this? I tilted my head. My aunt quietly opened the door while I was in her arms.

“Good morning, Princess Amelia!”

As if waiting for me to wake up, about a hundred people lined up in front of my door, as they knelt and bowed their heads.

‘What…?’

Before, they treated me with respect as well, but today’s scale was completely different.

‘What is happening?’

I was about to leave. But what is this? In front of me, there was only one man who didn’t kneel, it was an old man with a Siberian brown bear-like physique. He spoke to me with a smile.

“So you are Princess Amelia.”

Thump.

The sound of his footsteps resounded on the marble floor as he was coming closer to me. I opened my eyes wide in realization. I know that man! In [Spring Came to the Dryland], he almost died at the beginning, but nevertheless boasted a formidable presence.

“Ba, buui. (Ge, General Raphael)”

This grandpa was the main villain.

At my murmuring, General Raphael tilted his head slightly. I’ve been wanting to meet you.

I covered my lips with my small palm, but it was already too late. I accidently said his name.

“Babui?”

His wrinkled eyes glanced at me for a brief moment.

‘I shouldn’t have said that.’

But, how can I pretend I don’t know the main villain who creates all the conflicts in [Spring Came to the Dryland]?

The huge grandpa suddenly peered at my face. His blue eyes stared at me with interest.

“Do you know who I am, Princess?”

A cold sweat formed automatically on my forehead. His gaze has a hint of coldness to it, unlike his friendly face.

My lips instantly open due to nervousness.

“Abaa, Babuii, Babuii.”

Do you understand what I mean? I do not know myself!

At my babble, Lucinda smiled awkwardly.

“I think she wants to say grandpa.”

“Grandpa huh?”

At Lucinda’s answer, he smiled. I accidently met his eyes which were as sharp as ice.

“You look like His Majesty Lloyd. The former Emperor was a good person. He was honest and hard-working. He also called me grandpa when he was a kid.”

He mumbled about my father on his own, then he asked me a random question.

“Who am I?”

“Ba, babui.”

“It’s very strange.”

His sharp blue eyes looked at me again and said.

“I think you understand what I am saying.”
