Chapter 40 — Foolish Mortals
He wasn’t afraid of death, not afraid of anything at all. He had long ceased to care about anything! Death? Just a release!
“Dr. Lu!” Ye Tian gazed at Lu Ziyi, then slowly asked, “What makes you say that the apocalypse will be coming? What evidence do you have?”
“Evidence? This is the evidence, these … are the evidence!” Lu Ziyi roared.
As he spoke, he ripped open his own clothes, revealing his upper body. Scars covered his chest and abdomen, some even appeared sunken and distorted.
Those scars were inflicted by his wife, a Puppeteer, a torment-type of Puppeteer. Back then, she had done all that to torture him, intending to torment him to the point of being worse off than dead before devouring his brain!
“The Alliance was wrong, we were wrong, the whole world was wrong! The Tianxu Group was right, they were right!” Lu Ziyi continued to roar. “Puppeteers cannot coexist peacefully with humans, never! All of this now is just their disguise; they will eventually reveal their true selves!” he shouted.
“By then, it will be the world’s end! The Tianxu Group was right; a new round of catastrophes will eventually arrive. Humanity will face greater disasters! Everything could have ended earlier; it was almost over!” he continued. “But it was ruined by us, by the world itself! Ah hahaha! Foolish mortals, under the Puppeteers’ lies, sing songs of noble love and push themselves toward destruction! How ironic, ah hahaha …”
Lu Ziyi’s crazed voice echoed at the pinnacle of the Alliance’s defenses, facing the fierce winds.
He had once stood on the side of the Alliance, on the side of humanity. He believed in love, believed that Puppeteers could peacefully coexist with humans.
His wife was a Puppeteer! His wife loved him deeply, from their meeting, acquaintance, falling in love, to marriage! Everything was so beautiful.
He didn’t want that beauty to be ruined, so he fought against the Tianxu Group alongside the Alliance and the whole world.
Initially, like everyone else, he truly believed that even if the one he loved was a Puppeteer, they wouldn’t harm him. He believed that years of companionship could change a Puppeteer. He genuinely believed that Puppeteers could live in peace with humans!
Until a few years ago, his wife revealed her true nature. That day, he was tied tightly to a bed, enduring the sharp blades of his wife slowly cutting into his flesh, skin, and muscle.
Enduring that excruciating torture.
If someone hadn’t arrived in time, his brain would have undoubtedly ended up as his wife’s meal!
Since then, he knew that peace didn’t exist! Puppeteers had no emotions, never would!
The Tianxu Group was right. Everything their boss said before dying was correct. The mistake lay with the whole world and all the still-unenlightened humans!
Puppeteers didn’t have genuine emotions; doomsday would eventually return! The human world, everything, would ultimately perish.
Ye Tian gazed at the half-mad Lu Ziyi. Then he said slowly, “We regret what happened to you back then, but … your wife cannot represent all Puppeteers. We can’t generalize based on individual cases.”
“Why not!? Ye Tian, I’ll tell you, she can!!” Lu Ziyi shouted fiercely. “All Puppeteers can be controlled by a No. 1 Puppeteer. Her attacking me means No. 1 Puppeteer didn’t order her to coexist peacefully with humans! This is the best proof!”
If Puppeteers truly wanted to coexist peacefully with humans, it only needed an order from No. 1 Puppeteer! But that didn’t happen!
Therefore, peace simply didn’t exist!
Lu Ziyi’s words left Ye Tian and the others silent. Because it was indeed like that. It meant that all torment-type Puppeteers had the motive to consume humans. All torment-type Puppeteers didn’t coexist peacefully with humans!

This made Lu Ziyi fall into a brief silence. It seemed he couldn’t find any reason to refute Luo Xue. Because indeed, he couldn’t produce any evidence to prove that doomsday would arrive. He couldn’t provide any proof that all types of Puppeteers were consuming humans.
